Matt Lucas and David Wailliams look set to take comedy phenomenon "Little Britain" to the States reports Empire Online.

Talking to Michael Parkinson the pair revealed that their warped assortment of characters may eventually make it to the big screen. "We've got a sort of film development deal out there" said Wailliams.

He added that a deal with "Pop Idol" producer Simon Fuller has also been done with the aim of creating a US version of Little Britain for the HBO cable network.

The sketch comedy show has run for three series in the UK and features an array of regular characters played by the two guys, including a militant weight loss group leader, a Prime Ministerial aide utterly infatuated with his boss, a pair of obese trophy wives fighting over the one man, and a teenage girl with serious attitude.

The phrase "I'm the only gay in the village" from one of their characters, a somewhat self-deluded small village gay guy, has become an internationally known and very popular piece of pop culture vernacular. The show is also noted for its extensive use of make-up effects to turn the two guys into all sorts of characters.
