At the Creation Chicago Star Trek 40th Anniversary Convention over the weekend, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy said they were expecting calls from "Star Trek XI" producer J.J. Abrams shortly, with Shatner having met the man himself some time last week. He added "On the horizon there are good things for Star Trek and hopefully my involvement".
Meanwhile a controversy has erupted over the new remastered original series. Original press releases say that 'only a handful' of stations would be getting Trek in high-definition format. However, when pressed on the issue last week the channel confirmed that none will carry it despite the show being made in high definition format.
TrekMovie.com has spoken to some affiliates who say they are fully capable and want the show in HD. CBS responded saying they would start sending out the HD version 'once enough stations have upgraded' but weren't specific on what constitutes 'enough stations'. TV Guide says the problem is doubly confusing as the network is also putting "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" into high-def syndication starting next week.
Despite it being clearer, what's the point really one wonders in bothering to watch unless they broadcast properly in HD.
