"Still Life" Director Jia Zhangke has revealed that his next movie would focus on the end of the Chinese Cultural Revolution reports Reuters.

Based on the novel "The Age of Tattoo" by author Su Tong ("Raise the Red Lantern"), several teenage gangsters will be the main characters with Zhao Tao the only confirmed cast member at present.

Jia said the film will be set in 1975 in Suzhou, near Shanghai, at the end of the decade of social and economic upheaval set in motion by People's Republic founder Mao Zedong.

Jia told The Beijing Daily "I don't want to tell macro stories, I want to focus on the small alleys of daily life that show the pain people suffered due to (that period's) shortages, and how they were engulfed by the times".
