Strike Entertainment, the production company behind "Slither" and the "Dawn of the Dead" remake, is combing Hollywood for a writer (or writers) to tackle a theatrical prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter sci-fi classic "The Thing" reports Fangoria

Various attempts have been made in the past ten years to do some sort of follow-up to the film. George Clooney flirted with the idea of adapting the original story "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell, into an original TV movie.

Most recently, "Shawshank Redemption" helmer Frank Darabont was attached to a Sci-Fi Channel original movie/mini-series that would serve as either a prequel or sequel.

Since the production house works solely with Universal, that studio would be responsible for distribution.
