Universal Pictures and the Kennedy/Marshall Co. have acquired "Beowulf" and "Clockwork" scrive Matthew Sand's spec script "American by Blood," based on the novel by Andrew Huebner reports Variety.
Published in 2000, the story concerns three U.S. Army scouts who are the first to arrive at the horrifying aftermath of the battle of Little Bighorn and then take on the grueling assignment of tracking down the Sioux leader, Crazy Horse.
'Blood' was first optioned by producer Kathleen Kennedy for Steven Spielberg to direct years ago, however the script never came together and the option expired.
Huebner said he wouldn't option his book again until Sand came along and optioned the novel himself. His spec script interested Kennedy who snatched it up with Universal. She and Frank Marshall will produce.
