Transylvania & 24 Downsized

sp;> The Hollywood Reporter"Transylvania" may live-- but don't look for it at NBC says Variety. Nine months ago, the network pacted with Universal Network Television for "Transylvania," a drama set in the universe of "Van Helsing" and exec produced by Stephen Sommers. Hopes were high that a pilot would be in this month's upfront lineup where it could benefit from a summer's worth of movie promos.

Now it appears that NBC 'quietly cooled' on "Transylvania" just a few months after the project was announced - long before the merger with Universal or a single ticket for "Van Helsing" was sold. The reason? Execs decided the show was simply too expensive. "Transylvania" may still happen as other networks outside the NBC U universe are said to be interested.

Meanwhile whilst "24" is coming back for a fourth (and uninterrupted) season starting in January on FOX in the US, some of its key players won't be making the journey for another go. There's SPOILERS ahead for the third season so those not up on who lives/dies should LOOK AWAY now.

The Hollywood Reporter indicates that the actors who play Jack Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland) colleagues at the Counter Terrorism Unit on the Fox drama have been informed that their options as series regulars will not be picked up for next season. Reiko Aylesworth (Michelle Dessler), James Badge Dale (Chase Edmunds) and Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida), could return next season for guest appearances.

Also up in the air is the "24" future of Mary Lynn Rajskub, Zachary Quinto, Daniel Dae Kim, who played CTU members on a recurring basis this year. Elisha Cuthbert, who plays Jack's daughter and CTU analyst Kimberly Bauer, is fielding film offers and is expected to recur next season subject to her availability (so hopefully there'll be a decent Kimmy subplot for once).
