Bruce Beresford has signed to write and direct a new Australian feature based on the Battle of Long Tan, one of the seminal battles of the Vietnam War for Australian and New Zealand troops says The Hollywood Reporter.
Eighteen Australians died Aug. 18, 1966, when a contingent of 108 soldiers from Australia and New Zealand fought off 2,500 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops in a rubber plantation at Long Tan, with enemy casualties numbering 200-500.
Beresford is working on the script of the feature, which will have a budget of USD$25-30 million. Production is likely to start next year, and it's hoped to be filmed entirely in Australia.
