Daniel Craig will re-team with two female co-stars for New Line's big budget fantasy epic "The Golden Compass" reports Variety.
The film is the first installment of an intended trilogy based on the Philip Pullman series "His Dark Materials." Chris Weitz wrote the script and directs.
Craig will play Lord Asriel, a ruthless and mysterious adventurer who is the uncle of Lyra Belacqua, the young girl who journeys to a parallel universe to save her best friend. The character appears in all three books.
Craig's upcoming films include the James Bond film "Casino Royale" with French actress Eva Green, and the 'Body Snatchers' remake "The Visiting" with Aussie star Nicole Kidman. Both Green and Kidman have already been cast in "Compass" which begins shooting September 4th in the UK.
Craig will shoot the film and then get to work on the 22nd installment of the James Bond series due May 2008.
