Josh Brolin is joining the cast of Ridley Scott's 1970's crime drama "American Gangster" for Universal reports the trades.
Story concerns Harlem drug kingpin Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington), who smuggled heroin in the body bags of U.S. soldiers slain in Vietnam. Brolin plays Det. Trupo, a crooked NYPD cop who piggybacks on the Lucas investigation conducted by Det. Ritchie Roberts (Russell Crowe).
Steve Zaillian wrote the original screenplay and was recently rehired by U to rewrite the script, which was at one point rewritten by Terry George.
