New Line has signed Jim Broadbent to play Wilbur Turnblad, the father of lead character Tracy Turnblad, in "Hairspray" - the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical reports Variety.
Broadbent joins John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron and newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who'll play Tracy. The move completes the major casting for the film which Adam Shankman is directing.
Shooting begins September 5th in Toronto for a December 21st 2007, release.
