The Devil's Rejects (script) "It's gonna be another wild ride for both audiences and their stomachs. Fans will be pleased to see their favorite Firefly freaks back in action with more room to breathe and cut loose. And hopefully those who thrust a more unfavorable opinion upon Corpses for its veil-thin plotting will appreciate the meatier story Zombie has culled from that warped brain of his..." (full review)
Shrek 2 "There are many of these jokes thrown at the screen, and 99% of them not only stick, they stick very well. Speaking of Disney, Shrek 2 avoids some of the problems that Disney and Pixar have with audience manipulation. There are no cloying moments here, no sad music to make the audience weep; the lack of obvious manipulation was to me startling and completely welcome..." (full review) "In general, sequels aren't as good as the original, even with animated movies ('Return To Neverland' was proof of that!). 'Shrek 2' may not be as much of a fairy tale as the original, and plays more like 'Meet The Parents' and a really bizarre 'Romeo and Juliet,' but it's just as funny as the first 'Shrek.'..." (full review) "Best of all, Shrek 2 is a movie that adults and children can enjoy equally. The grown-ups can appreciate the in-jokes and inspired sight gags, while kids can awe at the amazing animation and goofy characters. The novelty of the original movie may be somewhat diminished here, but this sequel is still hugely entertaining fun for all ages..." (full review)
Raising Helen "Despite its predictability and mediocre drama, most women will still find plenty to enjoy about Raising Helen. In fact, the movie can best be summed up as a big screen Lifetime movie. Unfortunately, the men in the audience will no doubt be glancing at their watches and wishing they were in the summer popcorn flick in the next theater over..." (full review)
Farenheit 911 "FAHRENHEIT 9/11 seems like a growth for Moore with a lot less emphasis on himself (I think you only see him twice in the entire film), a lot less emphasis on set-ups, prodding tactics and eye-catching video (although we do get a couple of graphic bits, including some stuff of the U.S. soldiers in Iraq), and a lot more emphasis on facts, figures, quotes and actual footage from real events that help back his case. As I said back in 2002 for BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, I will say again for this film: if there is one movie that you will see this year, make sure that it's FAHRENHEIT 9/11..." (full review)
"The political activist and documentarian has moved on from the witty asides that littered Bowling For Columbine to an out-and-out attack on the George Bush administration. As a result, he's on screen a lot less, but that's not saying it's not as entertaining. He portrays Bush as a thicko hick who spent 42% of his first eight months in office on vacation and this is backed up by a hilarious clip of Bush back on the farm grinning stupidly and declaring, "I love to dig the soil looking for bugs..." "There is highly selective editing, but the story is not totally one-sided. For example, there are soldiers in Iraq who believe in their mission, as well as those who say they are disillusioned. But the movie's conclusions - true or otherwise - and highly emotional interviews with bereaved parents and injured soldiers will have a big impact on audiences around the world..." (full review)
Salem's Lot (TV) "After watching Mikael Salomon's TV remake of Salem's Lot, I couldn't help but compare The Soprano's to the Stephen King's TV movies. There's always this great level of anticipation, and everyone is giving it so much attention- it makes you feel like you're about to witness something extraordinary- only it always manages to disappoint on some level..." Without a Paddle by 'RT' "Last Thursday I saw a sneak peak of Without a Paddle in Las Vegas, NV. It was a unfinished cut they were still working on so some scenes might change. And to tell you the truth I didnt care for the film despite the bad editing and really dark photography. Where should I start? Lets look at the plot for a second, its basically a damn rehab of a bad City Slickers sequel. Three friends ( Mathew Lillard, Seth Green, Dax Shepard who is terrible by the way) venture off into the Oregon woods searching for a freind's hidden treasure and encounter rough water rapids, two crazy drug dealers, and two irritating hippie girls that should be cut from the film altogether. Dont expect Burt Reynolds to do much as an mountain man, he's in the middle, and disappers to show up in the end. What a waste of talent right there, Burt is just the stand in for Jack Palance's Curly character from City Slickers. Mathew Lillard is a surprisingly good as the lead and does'nt overact as usual. Hes the only one that saves the film of whats left of it. Seth Green doesnt work as a nerd doctor, he needs a little more help. The third guy Shepard as a screw up in life is unconvincing and needs to be cut out of the film. There is a lot of action surprisingly along with the slapstick comedy. Plus a use of a Boy George song as a gag. I do like the scene with the bear and Seth Green. I have an suggestion Paramount, scrap the whole project, work on a more serious storyline, give Seth Green more of a serious role, make it a drama with a little bit of comedy thrown in, and last but not least, get rid Of Dax Shepard".
