During the Television Critics Summer press tour yesterday, the future seemed more than a little uncertain for long-running drama "Gilmore Girls". Both lead actresses, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, have already said they are not planning to return past this new season.
Both Graham and CW President of Entertainment Dawn Ostroff were cautiously hopeful for the show's future, Graham telling iF Magazine that "I think we're all really excited to where the show can go, and I read the first script and I love it. So a lot of things could happen. The fact is that our legal contracts are up. So you do begin to imagine, 'Well, what if?' in a different way than we have before".
Meanwhile "Veronica Mars" is also looking to be in trouble. The CW has only committed to 13 episodes this season, not the regular 22, though if it does well then expect it to get those remaining nine pretty quickly. Creator Rob Thomas says "If we're struggling now in our third year, I don't imagine that the fervor of our fans and the very kind response from the press is going to buy us another year. I think we're actually in a make-or-break time now. I think we need to come on in this new time slot and do well".
The other big change is unlike the first two seasons that featured an overall season-long mystery, Season Three will feature three different mini-arcs with each arc played without interruption or repeats during their separate storylines. The season kicks off with a nine episode story, then a seven, then a six.
