If you thought its opening weekend tallies would be the only record breaking that "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" would do, think again.
On Monday, "Pirates" sailed to an $18.1 million take - easily smashing the non-holiday Monday benchmark of $14.4 million set by "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" last year. Its Tuesday number of $15.7 million smashed that weekday's record number - the $12.6 million scored by "The Omen" remake on its opening Tuesday last month.
At present the film looks steady to approach and possibly breach the $200 million mark in its first week of business, and more notably the small drop-offs have shown a good indication that repeat business should be good enough for the film to certainly pass the $400 million mark, and possibly the $500 million so long as the dips remain on the short side.
