Momentum has acquired U.K. distribution rights to "Control," the long-gestating biopic of Ian Curtis, frontman of post-punk band Joy Division reports Variety.
Newcomer Sam Riley plays Curtis, who committed suicide in 1980 on the eve of the band's first U.S. tour. Samantha Morton plays his wife, Deborah. Expanding on Deborah Curtis' memoirs, "Touching From a Distance," Matt Greenhalgh's script examines the musician's struggle between his love for his wife and for his girlfriend, his bouts with epilepsy and his performances with the band.
German thesp Alexandra Maria Lara ("Downfall") will play his mistress. Pic marks the directorial debut of rock shutterbug Anton Corbijn. The production began filming Monday in and around Nottingham, England.
