sp; width="132" height="22"> An annual meeting hosted by NATO (North American Theatre Owners) took place last week with distributors from all over invited to talk about and show off their upcoming product reels. Included was some stuff that hasn't been released to theatre for placement yet and 'Logan-5' was there to take notes:
"The rep from Buena Vista was quite happy about their summer product and pointed out how Disney was the first company to have back to back $300M films (Nemo and Pirates). He went on to talk about the sequel(s) to Pirates and said the entire cast and production team would be back. He said production would begin shortly on Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 and they would be released six months apart in 2006. This was news to me as I had only heard their was going to be one sequel. He also brought the new trailer for The Incredibles which would be ready for placement on Shrek 2 next week. The trailer was incredible--sorry couldn't resist. Pixar has another huge hit on their hands if the the trailer is any indication.
Paramount brought the new trailer for Sky Captain which has the new release date on it. Some things in the new trailer which we haven't seen are flying aircraft carriers. The Sky Captain leads an aerial attack in which the planes dive into the ocean after the enemies and and underwater battle ensues. Paramount also had Alfie which is the Jude Law remake of the Michael Caine film. Jude Law looks to cement himself as an A-List actor. I wasn't really interested in seeing Alfie but the trailer changed my mind.
Fox had a 3-4 minute trailer of Alien Vs. Predator. It showed Bishop preparing the mission to Antarctica for Weyland Yutani. The team preparing to descend into the pyramid is given a rundown of what it will take to keep them alive as the mission was put together in a short amount of time. When the team descends into the pyramid it is cut off from the surface after a small group of Predators attack. Several members of the team are trapped in a sacrificial chamber and out of the floor rise alien eggs. The eggs open and just as the facehuggers jump there are several quick cuts of the humans fighting the Predators, Aliens attacking the humans and Predators fighting the Aliens. Great stuff!! I wasn't looking forward to this as I am not a huge fan of Paul Anderson but the trailer was probably the best thing from all of the studios.
Sony brought six minutes of behind the scenes footage of Spider-Man 2 which will be on the DVD release later this year. The footage was had interviews with Sam Raimi, Albert Molina, Tobey Maguire and Danny Elfman. Warner Bros showed rough footage of Oliver Stone's Alexander with Colin Farrell. The product reel also showed Joel Schumacher talking about The Phantom of the Opera. The footage from Phantom looks amazing and it will probably be nominated come Oscar time".
Thanks again to 'Logan-5'
