88 Minutes: "Emmett/Furla Films will finance and produce thriller "88 Minutes," with Al Pacino set to star. James Foley will direct pic from Gary Scott Thompson's screenplay. Budgeted at under $30 million, pic will start shooting in August in Vancouver. In "Minutes," a college professor who moonlights as a forensic psychiatrist for the FBI receives a death threat that says he has only 88 minutes to live. To save his life, he must use all his skills and training to narrow down the possible suspects, which include a disgruntled student, a jilted former lover and a serial killer on death row..." All for a Few Perfect Waves: "Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way banner has optioned feature rights to "All for a Few Perfect Waves," David Rensin's upcoming bio of surfer Miki Dora, with DiCaprio eyeing the central role. "High Fidelity" scribe D.V. DeVincentis will adapt the oral biography. Dora, who was credited with sparking Malibu's surfing subculture during the 1950s and '60s, was also a seductive prankster who had a fickle relationship with his public persona..." (more info). A Rhinestone Alibi: "Paramount Pictures has decided to believe in "A Rhinestone Alibi," setting up the tale of a college-based alibi service for Julie Richardson and Nathan Holtz to produce. Texas-set comedy centers on a co-ed with a mind for business who finds herself short on tuition. Her solution to her financial shortfall is building an on-campus empire providing alibis for friends..." (more info). Breakfast on Pluto: "In a return to the edgy Irish territory of "The Crying Game" and "The Butcher Boy," Neil Jordan is set to direct "Breakfast on Pluto" for Pathe Pictures this year. Set in the 1960s and 1970s, pic is a black comedy starring Cillian Murphy as Patrick "Kitten" Brady, an abandoned child who escapes from his foster home in small-town Ireland to become a transvestite and a performer in London..." (more info). Click: "Juan Jose Campanella is supervising a rewrite of the Adam Sandler laffer "Click" with an eye to possibly directing the film for Columbia Pictures and Revolution Studios. Campanella will work with the film's original scribes, Steve Koren and Mark O'Keefe ("Bruce Almighty"), on the script, which concerns a workaholic architect who finds a universal remote that allows him to fast-forward and rewind to different parts of his life. Lord of War: "Ethan Hawke, Jared Leto, Bridget Moynahan, Jeffrey Wright and Donald Sutherland have inked to appear opposite Nicolas Cage in writer-director Andrew Niccol's $42 million "Lord of War." Pic starts shooting July 19 in New York, Romania and South Africa. Niccol, who scripted "Terminal" and "The Truman Show" and wrote and directed "Gattaca" and "Simone," has penned a drama that casts Cage as a ruthless global arms dealer trying to stay a step ahead of a relentless Interpol agent (Hawke)..." It's the true story of a man who, after being arrested for rape, was diagnosed with a multiple personality disorder that had 24 manifestations. (more info). A Dirty Shame: "The MPAA's appeals board has upheld a decision to slap an NC-17 rating on New Line Cinema/Fine Line Features' "A Dirty Shame," directed by John Waters. A rep for New Line said Wednesday that the company had not yet made a decision on how to proceed. "A Dirty Shame" stars cult British comedian Tracey Ullman as a working-class store owner who turns into a depraved sex addict following a concussion. Farenheit 911: "Harvey and Bob Weinstein are nearing a deal with Miramax parent The Walt Disney Co. to personally buy back in full Miramax's interest in Michael Moore's documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11". The Weinsteins would then be free to find another distributor to release the film, which is scheduled to have its world premiere Monday at the Festival de Cannes. Under the deal currently being discussed, the Weinsteins in effect would reimburse Miramax the $5 million-$6 million that Miramax advanced Moore last year..." (more info). "Open Bar" is a described as a comedy in the vein of "Old School" about two friends who fulfill a lifelong dream of owning the bar that they used to sneak into in high school.
