Focus Features has nabbed domestic theatrical rights to Joe Wright's film "Atonement" which has just begun shooting in the U.K., and plans a release next year says The Hollywood Reporter.
The Working Title production, adapted from Ian McEwan's Booker Prize-nominated novel, tells the story of Briony (Saoirse Ronancq), a 13-year-old girl who falsely accuses the boyfriend (James McAvoy) of her older sister (KeiraKnightley) of assaulting their cousin.
The film follows the characters from the mid-1930s through World War II to the end of the 20th century, as Briony tries to atone for her earlier actions with the couple. Vanessa Redgrave and Brenda Blethyn also star.
