Whilst nothing is still technically official, HBO's profanity-laced western series "Deadwood" has been pretty much been all but cancelled - until late last week signs of life began to emerge.
Early last week 'Paper Chaser' sent in this report to add to the hubbub, and squeezed in a bit of "Ocean's 13" talk too:
"We were brought in about a month ago or so to start taking apart the set. The news came as a shock to us all because when we wrapped the show several months ago, we packed away all the boxes in a particular fashion so they'd be easy to open up and go right back to where they were (smalls, pics, glassware, etc). So we've been given six weeks to tear it all down and return everything, which is weird because we've had props checked out from WB for three years now and they're not wanting to take them back being a lot of them are "broken in" or "well worn" or "well used".
At any rate, I haven't seen an official announcement, but surely one is coming up. Deadwood has gone the way of Carnivale and Sopranos. If they're relocating the ENTIRE set (highly unlikely), it's news to me. But a lot of my colleagues have moved onto Ocean's Thirteen now and are building Al Pacino's Casino/Hotel which has been dubbed "The Bank" on set. I'm not sure if that's really the name of it, but they're making a HUGE Coy Pond right now by the entrance. They're also building a casino suite and have just built a huge tunnel that plaster's are making look like dirt".
Then mid-week, HBO reps informed the trade papers that no final decision has yet been made on a fourth season and that whilst talks are ongoing, the cable network options had lapsed on bringing back the cast (essentially cancelling the show without 'officially' cancelling it). Creator David Milch has dismissed the idea of a truncated season to wrap up storylines and is already at work on his next series "John From Cincinnati".
Now though, a reliable source the series has informed IGN Filmforce that HBO issued a "halt" order yesterday on tearing down the sets. Fan reaction to the potential cancellation has been swift and very vocal, and it actually might be working from the sounds of it. A definitive decision is expected to be announced within the next week or two.
