We've heard snippets from news reports and gaming sites throughout the week, now proper quotes have come out.
Whilst George Lucas was coy on the 3D "Star Wars" film versions, producer Rick McCallum was much more forthcoming in an interview with iF Magazine - "3D we’re working on, and it’s just a question of how many theatres are out there. Hopefully by the end of this year there will be about fifteen hundred theatres. We need about two or three thousand before it makes it viable for any of us to go forward with 3D. That looks like it’s going to happen sometime in the year 2007, so I am unbelievably happy about that".
As for those hoping for the live-action "Star Wars" series sooner rather than later, keep dreaming fanboys - "[The series] probably won’t be for another couple of years. We’ve just started the basic concept. We’re interviewing writers, and seeing a lot of people, but I would say it wouldn’t be happening for about eighteen months. Don’t believe a single thing [you’ve heard]...It’s really early stages, and we haven’t sat down to decide what direction to go".
Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima confirmed that a movie based on the Metal Gear Solid series of video games is in the pipeline. After cautiously dropping hints last Friday (see article), he addressed a public forum at E3 this week and said - "I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement. False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood". He refused to elaborate further.
