Benicio Del Toro, Catherine O'Hara, Forest Whitaker, Michelle Williams, Michael Berry Jr., Paul Dano and Tom Noonan will provide the voices of the titular characters in Spike Jonze's adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book "Where the Wild Things Are" reports the trades.
The Warner Bros. project will combine voice performances, live-action puppetry and computer animation. Catherine Keener will appear in the live-action portion of the film, playing the mother of Max, a child (yet to be cast) who ventures into a magical world of creatures after he is punished for misbehaving.
The other actors will voice the creatures, and Jonze will use the video of their work to inform the actual Wild Thing puppets. Those scenes will be shot in Australia. The studio is currently slating a 2008 release.
