Cruise Develops Iraqi Warrior King

By Garth Franklin Wednesday April 26th 2006 03:15PM

Paramount Pictures and Cruise/Wagner have optioned the New York Times Magazine article "The Fall of the Warrior King" by foreign correspondent Dexter Filkins reports Variety.

The story centers on Lt. Col. Nathan Sassaman, an Army commander in Baghdad who resigned following a scandal in which men under his command caused the drowning of an Iraqi civilian.

It's unclear whether the film will take shape as a Cruise vehicle, though he's age-appropriate to Sassaman, who's in his early 40s. Script will be written by playwright Stephen Belber ("The Power of Duff").
