Cornish Joins Loss & Golden

Abbie Cornish has signed on to play the female lead in Kimberly Peirce's Iraq War drama "Stop-Loss" for Paramount Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.

Penned by Peirce and Mark Richard, the story centers on a soldier who returns home from Iraq to Texas and is called to duty again through the military's "stop-loss" procedure. The soldier then refuses to return to battle.

Paramount and Peirce are in the process of casting the male lead, and are aiming for a late summer start date.

Cornish also recently signed on for a key role in "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", Shekar Kapur's currently in production sequel to his acclaimed 1998 effort "Elizabeth" reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

Cate Blanchett is reprising her role of monarch Elizabeth the First and the film explores her romance with Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen). Geoffrey Rush has also agreed to return as Elizabeth's ruthless confidante Sir Francis Walsingham.
