Since the villain character of Dr. Octopus figures prominently in the doomed Stacy family storyline in the comic book series - there's been some speculation that "Spider-Man 2" baddie Alfred Molina would return as Doc Ock in some capacity in the third film.

Molina however dismissed such talk, saying "I'm not in number three. The studio has an option on me for [parts] three and four, should they choose to use it, but who knows. I would certainly be up for it; I had a great time. But I don't think so. I think I died" Molina told Now Playing Magazine.

Molina acknowledges thought that no-one ever really dies in comic book movies, producer Avi Arad once telling Molina that "In this universe you don't die, you just disappear".
