Abrams Talks M:I-3's Direction

J.J. Abrams, the producer behind such TV hits as "Alias" and "Lost", appeared at this past weekend's WonderCon in San Francisco where he showed off two scenes from his first attempt at feature film directing - a tiny independent movie called "Mission: Impossible 3".

IESB sat down with Abrams who said he saw M:I:3 as a new film, one much different as the other two showed little of Tom Cruise's character Ethan Hunt. Abrams decided to give Hunt a home life, asking us to ponder how it feels to be facing 40 as an active secret agent. Thus despite the number in the title, it "exists in its own right, and maybe should be called Mission: Impossible: 0".

Abrams also revealed that Cruise did a lot of his stunt work. Seems that "when he slams into a car in the scene on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, that is really him, running full on, whacking into the car", and Cruise could "do stunts day after day then do real emotional, informational scenes that most actors would need to prep days for".
