Acquisitions: Factory, Talk, Planet

"Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has sued producer Holly Wiersma and the production company behind "Factory Girl" for $6 million in a dispute over the North American distribution rights to the Edie Sedgwick biopic. Sony's case seeks a court order declaring that it owns those rights according to an agreement allegedly reached in October. At last month's Sundance Film Festival, the Weinstein Co. said that it had acquired all rights to the film in North America..." (full details)

"Universal Pictures has locked down film rights to "Talk Talk," an identity-theft thriller by novelist T.C. Boyle. Gary Fleder ("Runaway Jury", "Kiss the Girls") is attached to helm. Story concerns a woman who goes on a cross-country road trip to track down the man who's used her stolen identity to commit crimes. Viking will publish the book in July..." (full details)

"Paramount Classics and National Geographic have jointly pre-bought U.S. rights to the $12 million French docu "The White Planet," shot at the North Pole over three years. In post-production, the film recounts the changing seasons and their impact on the region's flora and fauna. Company will release "Planet" on 400-500 screens in France on March 22..." (full details)
