Acquisitions: Divorcees, Possum, Dodgeball

"Universal Pictures is tying the knot with "The Divorcees," a spec script by Jesse Wigutow and John Maggio. "Divorcees" revolves around two guys in their early 30s whose longtime wives up and leave them. New Line has greenlit Julia Fowler's "Possum Trot Cloggers" comedy with Howard Deutch ("Pretty in Pink", "The Replacements") directing. Fowler's script revolves around a woman who's thrown off a clogging dance team by her two-timing boyfriend-coach. She then scrapes together a ragtag team to compete for the national clogging championship, finding love along the way..." (full details)

DreamWorks has plunked down $1 million to pick up a pitch from the team behind "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" -- Ben Stiller, writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber and producer Stuart Cornfeld.
