You've got to envy Mandy Moore. She can sing, she's got a budding film career, she's one of the few young actresses out there with a reputation for being at least a genuinely nice person, and she's got a spunky successful boyfriend who's extremely skilled with his balls - all up its a perfect package of a life. Now its time to put that to the test as her second film, and this year's first wide release, go under the critical knife from reviewers around the Net: "When all was said and done, it was the antagonistic relationship between Moore and Goode that worked for me, and that was, after all, the film's selling point. Toss some stunning imagery from across Europe into the mix (Prague, Venice, Berlin, etc...), peppy tunes, a little romance, a little humor, and you've got yourself a decent "date movie" to see with your better half during this dead-time of the movie season..." (full review) " From the trailers, it appeared to be a chick flick, as well as a remake of the 1953 film 'Roman Holiday', which it wouldn't have a chance of matching up to with pop singer/actress Mandy Moore and relative newcomer Matthew Goode in the roles. Though Moore and Goode aren't as dynamic as Hepburn and Peck, they do a very good job in 'Chasing Liberty.'..." (full review) "Hopefully, Mandy Moore will give up making these bubble gum films and maybe move on to more adult themed movies, along with her co-star. 'Liberty' is not a great movie, it is what it is. A film for a younger audience, that think Mandy Moore's albums are cool. I think at best, this movie should be rented..." (full review) "Yes, it's completely predictable. Yes, Mandy Moore is so sugary sweet you'll get a cavity from watching her on screen. Yes, it's primarily a chick flick. However, what makes it really entertaining is the wonderful sense of humor it has. From opening jokes about Clinton through the rest of the film, it's a lot funnier than you might expect. This makes it better than a simple rehash of "Roman Holiday" with an American presidential twist..." (full review)
