20th Century Fox is set for another adventure with the "Fantastic Four", the studio confirming months of speculation that it would bring its summer boxoffice hit back for a second installment says The Hollywood Reporter.
Director Tim Story and scribe Mark Frost have officially signed on for the sequel, which is set for a July 4th 2007 release. Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis are already signed to return as the mutating quartet.
In spite of scathing reviews, especially critical of both Story and Frost's work, "Fantastic Four" went on to earn $320 million worldwide (around half of that domestically). The film's more family-friendly tone in a Summer dominated by dark brooding sequels, and a heavy saturation marketing campaign helped deliver a $56 million opening weekend in spite of stiff competition from already opened and better-received juggernauts like "War of the Worlds" and "Batman Begins".
