In what's thought to be the first SVOD deal for a broadcast series made before its premiere, Netflix has reached an agreement with Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution for FOX's upcoming Batman prequel drama series "Gotham".
Under the pact, Netflix is set to become the exclusive subscription VOD home of the Warner Bros. TV-produced series as well as in each of the territories in which the streaming network operates. Warners retains the right to sell the series in linear syndication later on.
Each season of the series will be available to Netflix members following their broadcast run, which is expected to be in September next year in the United States to coincide with a potential Season 2 premiere.
The deal is rumored to be worth around $1.75 million an episode and follows Netflix's $2 million an episode buy of the Sony TV-produced hit NBC drama "The Blacklist". The first season of "Gotham" premieres on regular broadcast TV on September 22nd.
