Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly keen to get Matthew McConaughey to play the devil himself, Randall Flagg, in Josh Boone's upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King's "The Stand".

Flagg is the primary antagonist of the novel which is set in the wake of a plague that decimates civilisation. He's essentially seen as the work's version of The Devil and was previously played by Jamey Sheridan in the 1994 mini-series.

McConaughey may also team with "Syriana" writer/director Stephen Gaghan on "Gold" at Black Bear Pictures. Paul Haggis, who was previously linked as director, remains onboard as producer.

The true story tale deals with the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corporation mining scandal where large amounts of gold were found in the Indonesian jungle.
