Halfway though its current first season run, FX has officially renewed its vampire drama "The Strain" for a second season.
The show is the No. 1 new series on cable in the adults 18-49 demo, and scored the most-watched series premiere in FX history with 12.7 million total viewers. It also marks FX's first attempt to air an original series during Sunday's crowded primetime lineup.
Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse produce the series which explores an outbreak of a vampire virus in Manhattan following the mysterious grounding of a passenger jet. The show is based on a book trilogy by del Toro and Chuck Hogan and it has been previously been indicated that it would take around three to five seasons to completely adapt the story.
