Following just one episode going to air, Starz has officially announced that they have renewed "Outlander," their time travel romance-adventure series set in the Scottish Highlands and based on Diana Gabaldon's best-selling novel series.
The Ron Moore-produced series will score a second season of at least thirteen episodes which is expected to be based on "Dragonfly in Amber," the second in the eight-book series.
That episode number is slightly down from the sixteen episodes ordered for the first season, though with the final count unknown at this time it could ultimately match it. The first eight are currently running with the next eight set to debut in early 2015.
The series debut has collected over five million views so far through broadcast, on-demand and online sampling. Also, despite the marketing skewing to a female demographic, the show has scored an equal number of male and female viewers.
