Will Staples ("Mission: Impossible 5") has come onboard to pen an untitled film described as a "Traffic-like dissection" of the illicit animal trafficking industry.
Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy will produce for Warner Bros. Pictures, and the trio could also potentially take onscreen roles in the ensemble.
The story explores the global market for illicit parts from slain animals. The characters range from the poachers, to the smugglers, to the buyers and dealers and more.
If this sounds familiar, it kind of is. This is the second project in development with the same subject matter spearheaded by Tom Hardy. Sheldon Turner ("Up in the Air") is penning the other one which Maguire and DiCaprio's companies are also producing.
That film is an African-set drama has Hardy playing a former Special Forces soldier who signs on with a friend to work in the bush. He trains rangers to battle poachers decimating the rhino and elephant populations in Zimbabwe.
