The Marin County Sheriff's Office held a press conference today in San Rafael, California announcing the official details about the suicide of beloved comedian and actor Robin Williams.
Lieutenant Keith Boyd confirmed that the late actor was found slightly suspended in a seated position with a belt around his neck. The other end of the belt was wedged between a closet door and the door frame.
Williams' body was found by his personal assistant and was already cold to the touch. Rigor mortis had already set in. The 911 call from the assistant came in at 11:55am.
The actor was last seen alive late Sunday evening when his wife retired for the night. It was unknown when the actor went to his bedroom, but his wife left the house at 10:30am yesterday morning believing he was still asleep.
Medical personnel found cuts on the inside of his left wrist, and a pocket knife with red material consistent with dried blood on it, but they weren't the cause of death which was determined to be asphyxia. The final cause will not be certified for several weeks.
There were no signs of struggle or altercation, but a toxicology report will not be available for a few weeks.
