Those who only know the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" through the previous films or the more recent shows aren't familiar with some of the major elements which made the original cartoon comics so iconic.
Yes they had Shredder and the Foot Clan, they also had the sci-fi elements of the evil talking brain Krang from Dimension X, his base of operations the Technodrome, and the rhino and warthog mutants Bebop and Rocksteady. In fact a big part of the appeal of the original cartoon was the interplay between the villains who often were their own worst enemies.
With the film franchise effectively rebooted with this past weekend's successful effort, many have wondered if those additional parts of "Ninja Turtles" lore will be incorporated into the story for the subsequent sequels.
Screen Rant asked director Jonathan Liebesman that very question recently to which he enthusiastically responded: "Dimension X? F--k yes. I would love to. I mean it's not up to me. It's up to all of us to decide."
Producer Andrew Form says earlier scripts for the film included the Dimension X elements: "There are scripts that have been written for this movie that integrated those worlds into it already." They were, however, discarded as according to Liebesman: "They were just too...it made the movie a bit too unfocused for this particular story."
