When Marvel announced its new line-up of 'Avengers Now' teammates for its comics, almost all the characters were familiar to fans of the films. Two characters that stood out though were two of the 'Inhumans' which are still only in comics form for now.
We know Marvel has been working on an "Inhumans" movie, but it's a project more nebulous than the likes of "Doctor Strange" or "Ant-Man" which are obviously further along. At the same time, Vin Diesel mentioned a long time ago that before signing on as Groot in "Guardians of the Galaxy," he was brought in to Marvel to discuss a quite different role for a "fresh IP".
Could they be one and the same? In a posting on his Facebook page this weekend, Diesel shared the following statement:
During 'Guardians' press rounds, Marvel's Kevin Feige said the "Inhumans" film is something they are "talking about." With the company having booked out a bunch of release dates over the next few years, several of which will go to previously unadapted titles, it seems fairly safe to say that "Inhumans" will be one of them.
If so, will Diesel be a part of that vision? If he were, his likeliest role would be that of the group's leader Black Bolt. The character doesn't speak, mainly because his voice is so powerful it can trigger city-levelling disturbances. As a result he's undergone rigorous mental training to prevent himself from uttering a sound, even in sleep.
It would be an ironic twist considering Diesel's voice is the only part of his performance we witness in 'Guardians'. There's also speculation that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be referred to as 'Inhumans' in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" which would immediately link this adaptation to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For now, Diesel and Marvel seem content to just tease us.
