Last season when "Lost" became the water cooler show everyone was talking about, the networks greenlit a slew of less interesting science fiction and supernatural themed series to try and cash in on the phenomenon. Now, a third of the way through this TV season the only new show of the bunch generating a loyal fanbase and similar talk (albeit on a smaller level) has been Fox's suspense thriller serial drama "Prison Break" which has been a consistently well reviewed and solid rater which airs its season finale tonight before returning sometime early-mid next year.
As a consequence of its success for Fox, ratings strapped network NBC is already planning two similar crime-themed serials for next season and much like "Prison Break", these sound like good concepts that seem impossible in terms of carrying on beyond the lifespan of one season. Already getting a lot of publicity is "Heist", a serialised drama which follows the planning, staging, execution and escape of a group of thieves planning to commit three jewelry store robberies in one day along LA's famous Rodeo Drive. "The Bourne Identity" helmer Doug Liman is producing and Dougray Scott stars.
Today comes word that Mykelti Williamson, Linus Roache, Delroy Lindo, Boris McGiver and Carmen Ejogo have joined NBC's suspense drama pilot "Kidnapped". This series will follow the kidnapping case of the 15-year-old son of a wealthy New York family. The twist with it however is that the story is being told from multiple points of view (ala "Boomtown") which will allow for different perspectives on key scenes.
Thanks to 'Mary'.
