Recent "Transformers" Crosses $1 Billion Mark

Critics hate it, a lot of audience members seem to as well, but there's no denying that "Transformers" is popular with mass audiences.

This weekend the most recent release, "Transformers: Age of Extinction," became the first film of the year to pass $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It's the second film in the series to do so, following the third film which ultimately came in at $1.12 billion.

Yet domestically it's by far the lowest and is on target to wrap at the U.S. box-office with just a little over $250-260 million, way behind the first one's $319 million domestic haul.

The shortfall has been made up overseas, specifically China where it has grossed over $300 million. The downside there is Paramount receives only 25% of that revenue.
