Occupant Entertainment and Deep Silver are teaming to produce a film version of the video game series "Dead Island"
The game series is set on an island paradise during a contagious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player has to protect the other survivors and escape. The first game sold over eight million units worldwide after its initial release.
A filmmaker is expected to be attached shortly and the project is being fast-tracked ti begin production in the first quarter of 2015 and a media launch expected in Berlin or Cannes.
Lionsgate attempted a previous adaptation of the game back in 2011 which ultimately never took off. When the rights reverted back to the publisher, the new deal with Occupant began.
