Peter Jackson Briefly Talks "Skull Island"

Almost immediately following Legendary's "Skull Island" announcement at Comic-Con, a wild rumor began to swirl that Guillermo del Toro was involved with the project despite the filmmaker's commitment to "Pacific Rim 2". Understandably the rumor didn't pan out as a few days later came word that Joe Cornish had been offered the gig.

Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis, who directed and starred as the title character respectively in 2005′s "King Kong," were asked about the del Toro rumor during the convention. Their answers to Collider might surprise you - seems they learned about the movie at the same time as everyone else. First up, Jackson:

"I don't know anything about it. I'm hearing it from you, for the first time. I would look forward to it. If Guillermo did King Kong, that would be great. That would be fantastic. I'll be there on the first day, and will help him with anything he needs. I've always wondered, if in my lifetime, whether we're going to see The Lord of the Rings film remade, or The Hobbit remade. How long will it actually last or survive until someone remakes it? It will be interesting to see. But with Kong, we were the ones who remade it for the third time."

Serkis then added: "I didn't even realize there was another version being made. Guillermo is a great director, so I'm sure he'll make an extraordinary film."

del Toro however is busy. He's finishing up "Crimson Peak," prepping "Pacific Rim 2," producing FX's "The Strain" and potentially even doing a third "Hellboy" following crowd response in San Diego last week.
