So is Nickelodeon star Jon Beavers our new Joker? It's not quite that simple.
Last week several screen caps were released from the "Gotham" pilot episode, a scene in which a meek stand-up comedian (Beavers) was performing for Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney character at her nightclub.
"The Killing Joke" graphic novel famously portrayed The Joker's origin story as that of a failed stand-up comic, so quite a few people have concluded that this is the first cameo of the man who will become The Joker in the series.
They might be right, but it's not as easy as that. In fact, Bleeding Cool reports that every episode of the show's first season will introduce a character that could potentially become the Clown Prince of Crime.
Each character will reportedly come with an an element "emphasizing the character's iconography, a card sharp, a flower seller, a clown, or just a guy with a very big grin." One of these characters will ultimately be revealed as The Joker.
This follows on from comments by show runner Bruno Heller who confirmed that The Joker will be "brought in with great care and a lot of thought."
