Robert Redford has signed on to play news broadcaster and journalist Dan Rather in "Truth," a film adaptation of the 2005 memoir "Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power" for Mythology Entertainment.
Cate Blanchett is attached to play Rather's Peabody Award-winning producer Mary Mapes who penned the book. "The Amazing Spider-Man" screenwriter James Vanderbilt makes his directorial debut with the film and will adapt the screenplay.
The tome deals with the fallout after Rather reported in 2004 that George W. Bush had received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.
Said report that was based on documents that turned out to be forgeries and the subsequent scandal became known as "Rathergate". Mapes was accused of lapses in judgment and was fired, while Rather's career and reputation were jeopardized.
