Filmmaker Scott Cooper ("Crazy Heart," "Out of the Furnace"), who is currently shooting the Whitey Bulger biopic "Black Mass," has come onboard to direct the true story tale "Granite Mountain Hotshots".

The film tells the story of a firefighter crew that lost nineteen men stopping Arizona's Yarnell Hill Wildfire in 2013. Ken Nolan ("Black Hawk Down") is set to write the screenplay.

Survivor Brendan McDonough and the crew leader's widow Amanda Marsh are being consulted for the project. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mike Menchel, Dawn Ostroff and Jeremy Steckler will produce.
