"Universal Pictures has acquired the Tom Pabst ("Fracture", "Indianapolis") drama pitch "Turbulence" which Mirage partners Sydney Pollack and Anthony Minghella will produce. Pabst will write the script about an L.A.-based pilot who is frustrated by his life until, over the course of several flights to Tokyo, he stumbles on a conspiracy that fascinates him. "Rodney Rothman ("Committed", "Undeclared") has flown his "Early Bird" over to Paramount Pictures as a feature to be produced by Judd Apatow. Rothman's project originally started as a book inspired by his own life after losing his writing gig at "Late Show With David Letterman." Before his tome hit shelves, NBC bought it and ordered a pilot, though it was never picked up for series. 'Bird' centers on a scribe in his late 20s who loses his television job.
