Steve Martin Returns For Gay-Themed "Bride"

By Garth Franklin Monday June 16th 2014 02:23PM

Update: Steve Martin himself has denied the report in the best possible way - with a clever quip on Twitter, saying "So excited to read I'm doing Father of the Bride 3 since I haven't seen a script or been offered the role!."

Original: NikkiFinke.com reports that Steve Martin is reportedly set to reprise his title role as George Banks in the comedy "Father of the Bride 3" which will sport a slightly different twist this time.

Disney Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures are currently sorting out the rights to the franchise which began in 1991 in which Martin's character struggled with the emotional and financial burden of the wedding of his daughter Annie (Kimberly Williams-Paisley).

Now, his character faces a similar predicament when he has to throw his gay son Matty a similar wedding to his boyfriend, the son of a Navy SEAL.

Kieran Culkin played Matty in the original films and, unlike many other child actors of the time, is still actively working today so could well reprise his role.

Diane Keaton is not yet set to reprise her role as George's wife Nina, however the character plays a key role in turning around George's thoughts on gay marriage after she has him kicked out of the house.

Charles Shyer, who directed the first two films, will return for this third installment and will co-write the screenplay with Marc Klein.
