Showtime has officially renewed its sexy, gothic supernatural thriller series "Penny Dreadful" for a second season to air in 2015. The order is for ten episodes, up from the eight produced for the first season which is currently halfway through its run.
Josh Hartnett, Eva Green and Timothy Dalton lead the cast of the series which explores the idea of literary creations like Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and Dracula living lives in the shadows of Victorian-era London.
The series is pulling in around 725,000 viewers on live airings, but is drawing roughly 4.8 million weekly viewers across multiple platforms. It's also performing well internationally where it was ranked as the second-biggest program of the week in pay TV homes for its premiere in the United Kingdom.
"Skyfall" scribe John Logan penned all eight episodes of the first season, no word if that will be the case again. He, Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris are all returning as executive producers.
