Producer Neal Moritz and StudioCanal are moving forward with a re-imagining of the 1993 Renny Harlin-directed action thriller "Cliffhanger".
A group of screenwriters pitched their new take on the Sylvester Stallone-led film with a spirited version by Joe Gazzam ("Shadow Run") winning. Gazzam will now pen the script.
In the original Stallone played traumatized mountain climber forced back into an expedition after a failed mid-flight heist leaves three cases of stolen money and a group of crooks (led by John Lithgow) stranded in the Rocky Mountains.
TriStar distributed the original and Moritz's Original Pictures is based at Sony Pictures which will likely get first option. Moritz and Ori Marmur will produce.
