Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to replace Guy Pearce in the Whitey Bulger biopic "Black Mass" at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Cumberbatch will play Whitey's brother Billy, the former President of the Massachusetts State Senate. Though never implicated, Billy's political opponents often uses his brother's reputation against him.
Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton remain onboard in the leading roles of Whitey himself and his longtime friend and FBI agent John Connolly respectively.
No official word has been revealed regarding the reason for the casting change. Also hopping onboard is Adam Scott who has signed on to play FBI agent Robert Fitzpatrick.
Scott Cooper is directing from an adapted screenplay by Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth. Shooting is currently under way in Boston.
