John Malkovich is in early talks to play a KGB operative in "Reagan," a $26 million movie about the life of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
Howard Klausner ("Space Cowboys") penned the script in which Malkovich would play veteran Russian spy Viktor Petrovich who was assigned to tail the young Reagan.
A committed anti-communist crusader, Reagan ascends from being a Hollywood actor to become the U.S. president. The film covers events from Petrovich's point of view up until the day of the attempt on Reagan's life.
Stephen Frears is currently the favourite to direct the project based on Paul Kengor's books "God and Ronald Reagan" and "The Crusader".
