Annapurna Pictures has acquired the film rights to Anand Giridharadas' book "True American: Murder & Mercy in Texas".
Tom Hardy is attached to star and "Zero Dark Thirty" helmer Kathryn Bigelow is on board to direct the film which follows the true story of Bangladesh Air Force pilot Raisuddin Bhuiyan. Bhuiyan dreams of immigrating to America and working in technology.
However, days after 9/11, an avowed 'American terrorist' named Mark Stroman seeks revenge by walking into the Dallas minimart where Bhuiyan has found temporary work, and shoots him.
No word on when the project might go forward. Hardy is next attached to star in the Elton John biopic "Rocketman," the Kray twins crime drama "Legend" and the video game adaptation "Splinter Cell".
He'll be seen later this year in "The Drop" and "Child 44".
